Schoolyard 5U Program

⚽ AYSO Schoolyard Soccer β€” The Perfect First Soccer Experience (Ages 5 & Under)

If you’re looking for a fun, low-pressure way to introduce your child to soccer, our Schoolyard 5 & Under Program is the place to start!

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§ What makes Schoolyard special?

Schoolyard is a β€œOne-with-One” program, meaning every player has a parent or guardian on the field with them. You’re not on the sidelines β€” you’re part of the fun.

  • 5U Master Coach leads the session

  • Parent volunteers are guided through simple, age-appropriate activities

  • You coach your own child through each activity, building confidence and connection

No soccer experience needed β€” if you can smile, encourage, and chase a ball, you’re qualified.

πŸ“… Program Details

  • Once per week

  • 6-week program

  • 1-hour sessions

  • Typically held Saturday or Sunday

⚽ What does a session look like?

Each session follows a predictable, kid-friendly flow:

  • Warm-up activities

  • Short breaks (because kids)

  • Skill-building games and learning activities

  • More breaks

  • 20-minute mini-game where kids get to use their new skills

There are no scores, no standings, and no pressure. We let the kids play, explore, and learn naturally. During mini-games, parents may join their child on the field if needed β€” comfort and fun come first.

🎯 Why Schoolyard Soccer works

As part of the AYSO National Coaching Program, Schoolyard uses proven, age-appropriate activities to:

  • Build confidence

  • Develop coordination and balance

  • Improve listening and social skills

  • Prepare players for the AYSO 6U program

Most importantly β€” kids leave wanting to come back.

πŸ‘• What does my player need?

Each player receives an official AYSO uniform, including:

  • Reversible red/white jersey

  • Shorts

  • Soccer socks

You’ll also need:

  • Shin guards (required at all sessions)

  • Shin guards must be fully covered by socks and fit ½”–1” below the knee

  • Athletic shoes or soccer cleats

  • Size 3 soccer ball

  • Water bottle

πŸ‘Ÿ Parent volunteers: Come dressed to move and play β€” you’ll be active!
