AYSO Programs Offered This Season

AYSO Region 512 offers multiple age-appropriate programs designed to introduce players to the game of soccer, develop skills, and foster a lifelong love of the sport—all in a fun, supportive environment.

AYSO Core Program (6U – 15U)

The AYSO Core Program is the heart of what we do and the foundation for all the fun, excitement, and learning that happens on the field. This is where most players fall in love with soccer, build friendships, and create memories that last a lifetime.

Our Core Program is guided by AYSO’s Six Philosophies, which shape every practice and game:

Player Development

These philosophies are the essence of AYSO, and it all begins with Everyone Plays®—meaning no child spends their soccer experience sitting on the bench. Every player participates in at least half of every game.

Teams are formed with balance and development in mind, emphasizing the experience rather than wins or losses. It’s not about running up the score—it’s about learning teamwork, respect, and how to be a great teammate and opponent. At AYSO, player development goes beyond soccer skills; we believe life skills grow alongside athletic skills.

Games are typically played on weekends (Saturdays & Sundays), with practices held during the week in the evenings.

AYSO Schoolyard Soccer (5U)

The AYSO Schoolyard Program is a “one-with-one” experience, meaning each player has a parent or guardian on the field with them. A certified Schoolyard Coach leads the session and guides parent volunteers through age-appropriate activities, while parents work directly with their own child.

This program runs once per week for six weeks, with each session lasting approximately one hour. As part of the AYSO National Coaching Program, Schoolyard Soccer focuses on preparing players with the foundational skills they will need to move confidently into the 6U program.

Each session includes:

Warm-up activities
Skill-building activities with breaks
A short 20-minute mini-game where players can try out what they’ve learned

We keep things simple and fun—no scores, no strict rules, and no pressure. Players are encouraged to explore the game at their own pace while building confidence and familiarity. Parents may join their child on the field during the mini-game if needed, helping them feel comfortable and supported.

Players receive a soccer uniform to wear to all sessions. Families will need to provide:

Shin guards (required at all practices and games; must be covered by socks and fit properly)
Athletic shoes or soccer cleats
Water

Parent volunteers should come dressed to participate and ready to have fun!

This program is an excellent, low-pressure introduction to soccer in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

AYSO Playground Soccer (Age 3)

AYSO Playground Soccer is a child development–focused program designed especially for our youngest players. This six-week, soccer-based skills program emphasizes Fundamental Motor Skills (FMS) through fun, imaginative activities and storybook-style adventures.

Developed by child development and soccer experts, Playground Soccer helps children build a strong foundation for future sports participation. Players will hop, skip, jump, run, throw, balance, kick—and most importantly, play!

Each child participates alongside a parent or adult helper, making this a shared experience that strengthens bonding while building confidence and coordination. And yes—parents have just as much fun as the kids.

Playground Soccer is perfect for introducing young children to movement, teamwork, and the joy of soccer in a safe, supportive environment.
